Big city dreams for a small-city boy

{To the collegiate class of 2004}

BGM: Pomp and Circumstance
Wanting: to be up there with everyone
Wearing: the cap and gown of my dreams

To all those who are fortunate enough to have graduated this year from college, I commend you. For you are the leaders who will, before me, build this world and shape it to what its needs are. You are living the dream, the dream of thousands, the dream that is to take control of your own life and to build your future with your own two hands.

The carefree days of our youth are over, as much as it pains me to say. Most of us have succeeded in making it past that point and are on our way towards the shining, if at times lonely world of adulthood. We are tomorrow's Kings and Queens, we are the bold, we are the meek, we are the men and women for whom our parents have made this world we live in today. Though our real lives are just beginning, we must not forget the times that we had when we were younger and when we as of yet untouched and unburdened by the issues pressing from the outside world. Those are the times that shaped us into who we are right now; the upstanding people that are ready for the whatever may come their way. Though we have matured, let our hearts remain forever young, forever loving, forever pure, for if they are not, then we become without joy and life no longer is as a gift.

To all those that have made it; congratulations. It is my sincere hope that I will soon be there to join you in the great big outside world. Though I have for the moment faltered, I will eventually be there, alongside you all, making my way through, helping pave the way in this world for the generation that will come after us. Thank you to those who've helped along the way, for we couldn't have done it without you. Thank you to my peers who have given me hope when it all seemed bleak. Thank you everybody, for I love you all.
